Are you stuck in a rut? Do you feel like you’re going through the motions every day, and that there’s no room for spontaneity?
We’ve got good news for you: You can create whatever change you need!
Just by going out of bounds, or doing something that takes you out of your comfort zone, you can get the creative juices flowing again.
It’s easy to get stuck in a routine. You wake up, work, you do your thing, and then you finish or come home and do the same thing over again. But what if there were another way? There are different ways of getting out of your rut—you can try new things like taking a walk in the early morning when everyone else is sleeping in their cozy beds, or putting on your favorite song and dancing by yourself, or with a partner or favorite furry friend. Instead of getting coffee everyday, make a favorite beverage and go to the park and enjoy it. You get the picture.
Or maybe it’s something more creative: maybe it’s writing poetry instead of listening to music while working out (or vice versa), taking up an instrument that’s been collecting dust in your closet since high school (or even starting one – I have on my stretch list for the year to learn the Steel Pan!), or even just making sure that every day has something fun planned for it instead of just being on social media all day long!
Sometimes it takes just a little bit of courage and energy to break out of the mold and try something new—something that might push your boundaries just enough to make you feel happy.
Be open-minded and willing to explore new places and experiences! You’ll be amazed at how well those small steps will make you feel when you start appreciating what makes your life special and unique (even if it’s not perfect).
The truth is that this isn’t just about being happy—it’s about being open to the world around you and getting out of your comfort zone just enough to let yourself feel exhilarated. That’s what gives you joy. And when we use our minds to focus on how much fun we can have when we push ourselves just a little bit outside our usual routines, it becomes easier for us to see all the opportunities for joy that are waiting for us just outside our doorsteps.
In my next blog I’ll share some simple steps on how to find a different perspective and get out of the rut.
